Falcons Dominate Five-Way Meet
The Air Force men's and women's swimming and diving teams pulled off wins over North Dakota, Colorado College, Colorado School of Mines and Metro State to both go 4-0 in a five-way meet at Schlessman Pool on the Colorado College campus Friday afternoon. Highlighting the meet was sophomore Chris Knaute's record-breaking performance in the 1000 yard freestyle event.
The Falcon men's team took first-place overall in six of 14 events, led by Knaute's wins in the 500 and 1000 free. Knaute shattered the Schlessman Pool record in the 1000 with a time of 9:42.81, bettering the old record of 9:53.49 by over ten seconds. Knaute won the 500 free with a time of 4.57.65. Other first-place finishes for the Falcons came from junior Gordon White in the 200 free (1:45.51), sophomore Paul Parmenter> in the 200 individual medley (1:58.23), freshman TJ Cowling in the 100 free (48.02) and Matt Sievers in the 100 butterfly (51.99). The Falcon women's team also took first-overall in six events, led by sophomore Lauren White's> first-place finishes in the 500 and 1000 free. White won the 500 with a time of 5:17.15 and the 1000 with a 10:45.63 mark. Other first-place finishes for the women came from senior team-captain Andrea Hyma in the 50 free (25.43), junior Colleen Smith in the 200 IM (2:16.57) and junior Carly Omizo in the 100 breaststroke (1:07.54). Air Force also took first in the 200 medley and 200 free relay. The group of Rachael Miller, Omizo, Lindsey Kirchhoff and Hyma took the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:50.42. The group of Hyma, Miller, Lindsay Jansen and Kirchhoff won the 200 free relay with a time of 1:42.65. The Falcon men's team improves to 4-1 on the season and the women's team is now 11-3. Air Force men return to action Nov. 5-6 at the Big West Shootout in Irvine, Calif. The women's team returns to action Nov. 3, in a Mountain West Conference showdown at San Diego State.
