FORT COLLINS, Colo. -- The Air Force swimming teams opened their 2017-18 season on Sunday, as both the men's and women's squads competed in the Horsetooth Open Water Challenge, a 2.4 mile swim in Fort Collins.
One the women's side, Kelsey Linzmeyer and Jayden Glover tied for sixth place against teams from Northern Colorado and Colorado State. Rounding out the top-5 for the Falcons were Gabrielle Miller, Alexandra Duchene and Jinan Andrews.
The Air Force coaching staff also had a good day in Fort Collins as well, as volunteer assistant on the men's side Austin Smith, assistant women's coach Athena Miller and head men's coach Rob Clayton all won their respective age group races.
The men's team, fresh off its second straight Western Athletic Conference Championship, will officially start the season at the Colorado Mesa Intermountain Shootout on Oct. 6 and 7. The men's swimmers host their annual blue/silver meet on Saturday, Sept. 23 at 9 a.m. while the divers will host theirs on Sunday, Oct. 1 at 9 a.m.
The women's team, now led by first year head coach Colleen Murphy, will also kick off its season at the Colorado Mesa Invitational. The swimmers will host the annual blue/silver along with the men's team on Saturday, Sept. 23 at 9 a.m. while both diving teams will compete in the blue/silver on Sunday, Oct. 1.
