Air Force Swimming & Diving Places 24 On MWC Academic All-Conference Team
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The Air Force swimming & diving team placed 24 cadet-athletes on the Mountain West Conference Academic All-Conference team for Spring 2006, announced Tuesday by the conference office. The Falcon men had 13 cadet-athletes make the team and the AFA women garnered 11 academic all-conference honors.
The 24 academic all-conference selections were the most of any sport at the Academy. Leading the way for the mens' team was senior Matt Karmondy, who earned his fourth academic all-conference honor graduating with a 3.85 grade-point average majoring in aeronautical engineering. In the spring, Karmondy earned an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship and will attend MIT in the fall for the next two years to get his master's degree. Juniors Andrew Bergman (biology 3.36), Ryan Moss (mechanical engineering 3.40) and Matt Sievers (computer science 3.59) earned their third academic all-conference honors. Juniors Paul Parmenter (management 3.23) and Nick Uzelac (biology 3.11) and sophomores TJ Cowling (civil engineering 3.16) and Spencer Liedl (management 3.85) earned their second academic all-conference accolades. Junior Brady Lindberg (economics 3.15) and freshmen Spencer Butt (match 3.21), Drew Hauffe (undeclared 3.16), Ted Saitz (computer science 3.59) and Layne Wilson (operations research 3.26) earned their first academic all-conference award. Seniors Ginny Miller and Colleen Smith led the way for the women's team, with both earning their fourth academic all-conference honors. Miller posted a 3.64 GPA majoring in electrical engineering and Smith had a 3.25 GPA majoring in legal studies. Juniors Lauren Bursey (biology 3.36) and Lindsey Kirchhoff (social science 3.44) both earned their third academic all-conference honors. Junior Blair Leake (operations research 3.88) and sopomore Amy Get (biology 3.03) earned their second academic all-conference award. Sophomore Kallyn Johnson (biology 3.88) and freshmen Jane Hwang (biology 3.36), Meredith Leake (biology 3.23) and Roberta Nitzberg (undeclared 3.37) garnered their first honors.
