Falcons Compete at Indianapolis Grand Prix

    INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Air Force junior Cody Deacon qualified for the Olympic Trials in the men's 100 meter breastroke Thursday by placing 20th at the Indianapolis Grand Prix, which is being swam at the IU Natatorium on the campus of IUPUI. Deacon was one of eight men's swimmers and four women's swimers who competed today for the Falcons.

    Deacon was Air Force's highest-finishing swimmer, placing 20th in the 100 breast prelims with a time of 1:04.62. Senior Josh Hammervold also swam the 100 breast, placing 36th with a time of 1:05.69.

    The Falcons had five swimmers in the 100 butterfly prelims. Sophomore Anthony Chiaro led the way with a 34th place finish with a time of 56.70. Sophomores Kaleb Jenkins followed in 49th (57.70), Matt Millikin in 52nd (57.70) and freshmen Paul Leonhardt 56th (57.95) and Angus MacDonald 60th (58.13).

    Three Falcons swam in the 200 freestyle prelims. Junior Corydon Butler led the way with a 51st place finish with a time of 1:57.29. Sophomore Tim Martinelli followed in 53rd (1:57.45) and Leonhardt placed 78th (2:00.52).

    Four Air Force women's swimmers also competed.

    Sophomore Haley Holcombe led the way with a 24th place finish in the 100 fly prelims with a time of 1:03.61. Junior Katharine Ernst followed in 36th place (1:04.59) and freshman Gabby Aranda took 59th (1:05.90).

     

     

    Freshman Erin Bleyl swam the 200 free prelims and placed 78th with a time of 2:10.88.
