Air Force Swimming & Diving Swept at BYU
PROVO, Utah -- The Air Force men's and women's swimming and diving teams were swept in a Mountain West Conference dual meet at the BYU swimming and diving Complex. The men's team fell 142-95, while the women were downed 154-74.
The Falcon men (13-5, 1-1 MWC) were again led by sophomore Chris Knaute, who took first in two events and second in another. Knaute won the 500 yard freestyle (4:40.37) and the 1000 free (9:27.93) and finished second in the 200 individual medley (1:55.54). Classmate Justin Lapin also swam well for the Falcons, winning the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:54.70. Freshman TJ Cowling also swam a season-best time in the 200 free, with his second-place swim of 1:43.85. Junior Matt Karmondy and senior Ryan Fitzgerald also swam season-bests in the 1000 free. Karmondy placed third with a time of 9:49.11 while Fitzgerald placed fourth with a swim of 9:49.85 The Air Force women (19-15, 0-4) were led by the sister duo of Julienne and Lauren White. Julienne, a senior, took second in the 200 free (1:56.71), ahead of Lauren, a sophomore, who took third with a swim of 1:57.86. Lauren then took second in the 500 free (5:11.28), while Julienne followed up in third with a swim of 5:12.26. Freshman Tiffany Biddle also swam well for the Falcons, taking second in the 1000 free with a swim if 10:50.08. Freshman Amy Get tallied first place points for the Falcons in the one-meter (143.45) and three-meter (137.00) dives. Junior Carly Omizo also earned first-place points for Air Force in the 200 breaststroke (2:28.44) and the Falcon 400 free relay team also earned first-place points (3:42.24). The AFA swimming & diving team returns to action tomorrow in Salt Lake City, taking on Utah in a conference dual beginning at 1 p.m. --30--
