Air Force Downs Denver in Swimming
Jan. 11, 2002 The Air Force men's and women's swimming and diving teams defeated Denver Friday night in a dual meet at the Cadet Natatorium at the Academy. The men defeated the Pioneers, 131-108, while the women were 139-95 winners. Senior Stewart Parker paced the men's team. He won the 1,000- (10:07.60) and 100-yard freestyles (48.00). Freshman Brady Lindberg was also a multiple event winner. Lindberg won the one- (264.08) and three-meter (261.30) diving events. Other event winners included senior Quoc-Nam Nguyen in the 200-yard freestyle (1:46.39), freshman Tommy Chang in the 50-yard freestyle (21.73), junior John Dayton in the 100-yard butterfly (50.83) and sophomore Eric Pounds in the 500-yard freestyle (4:54.05). Air Force also won the 200-medley relay with Brehm, Dayton and sophomores Mason Phelps and Eric Baber in a time of 1:34.03. Junior Sarah Law paced the women's team by winning both diving events. Law won the one-meter with a score of 257.63 and the three-meter with a 277.58. Freshman Julienne White was also a multiple event winner. She won the 100- (10:57.85) and the 500-yard freestyles (5:24.17). Rookie Karen Long chipped in with a victory in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 24.96.
The men's team improves to 4-1 this season while the women's team is now 4-3 overall.
