Air Force Swimming Combines To Go 5-2 At FAU Winter Invite
BOCA RATON, Fla. - The Air Force men's swimming team went 3-1 and the women's team went 2-1 in head-to-head match-up's at the Florida Atlantic Winter Invitational. The Falcons were led by sophomore Chris Knaute, who took first place overall in three events.
The Falcon men were victorious over Florida Atlantic (120-108), Michigan State (168-16) and Transylvania (157-56) and lost to Purdue (132.-73). They now run their season record to 12-5. Knaute, who has already won two Mountain West Conference Swimmer of the Week honors, won the 200 yard freestyle (1:41.39), the 500 free(4:38.91) and the 200 individual medley (1:56.93). Four Falcon men, sophomores Ryan Moss (50 free, 22.08), Justin Lapin (200 backstroke, 1:57.12) and Andrew Bergman (200 breaststroke, 2:11.35) and senior Ryan Fitzgerald (1000 free, 9:50.79), finished second overall in their respective events. The Air Force women downed Michigan State (148-28) and Transylvania (146-79) and lost to Florida Atlantic (200.50-38.50). The Falcons are now 19-12 on the year. Four Falcon women took second overall in their events. Senior Andrea Hyma took second in the 50 free (25.79), sophomore Lauren White too second in the 500 free (5:11.19), sophomore Stephanie Hirst took second in the 200 breast (2:29.94) and senior Lara Styles was second in the 200 butterfly (2:14.99). The Air Force swimming & diving team returns to action, Friday, Jan. 21 when they host UNLV in a MWC showdown at the Cadet Natatorium at 4 p.m. --30--
