Falcons Split at San Diego

    The Air Force men's and women's swimming and diving team split a dual meet at San Diego late Friday. The men's team won, 111-94, while the women fell, 131-74.

    The men's team was paced by John Dayton, who won the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 53.60 and paced the 400-yard medley relay team to a win with a time of 3:25.23. Other first-place winners included Nate Amidon in the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:14.11), Kevin Heath in the 50-yard freestyle (22.10), Rory Peterson in the 100-yard butterfly (52.75), and Patrick Vandam in the 100-yard backstroke (57.08). The 400-yard freestyle relay team also won with a time of 3:14.28.

    On the women's side, Carley Baxter was the top swimmer with wins in the 200-yard freestyle (1:56.60) and the 100-yard freestyle (53.50). Sarah Thilo was a winner in the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:30.06) while Jaymie Van Kooten won the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:01.82.

    The men improve to 7-1 on the season while the women fall to 11-3. The men's next action is Thursday, Jan. 9, against Washington beginning at 6 p.m. at the Academy. The women's next action is Saturday, Jan. 11, at New Mexico.
