Air Force Women's Swimming & Diving Starts Strong at Georgia Tech Invite

ATLANTA, Ga. - The Air Force women's swimming & diving team is off to a strong start at the Georgia Tech Fall Invitational sitting in 10th place after day one action Friday at the GT Aquatic Center. The Falcons' top swims came in the 200 yard freestyle and 400 medley relay events. The Falcons opened the meet by taking 10th place in the 200 free relay. The group of Alison Ceranski, Cassie Fletcher, Samantha Laughlin and Hannah Cesare swam a time of 1:36.38, which was over three seconds faster than the previous season high. Air Force's top individual performer was freshman Moranda Hern in the the 3m springboard diving. Hern placed 25th with 205.28 points. In the 50 free, junior Cassie Fletcher led the Falcons with a 34th place finish. Fletcher clocked a time of 24.03 which was a season best and just .06 off her career low. Ceranski followed in 49th with a time of 24.53 and Cesare was 59th with a time of 24.66. In the 500 free, freshman Erin Bleyl led AFA with a 34th place finish. Bleyl clocked a time of 5:03.55 which just missed cracking the schools' top 10 list. Fellow freshmen Elizabeth Keenan finished 51st (5:09.69), Alivia Berg 52nd (5:09.82) and Michelle Kuyper 53rd (5:10.99). All four freshmen notched season-best times. In the 200 medley, sophomore Katrina Castellanos led the Falcons with a 42nd place finish. Castellanos swam a time of 2:08.96 which was seven seconds faster than her previous career-best and just outside the AFA top 10. Classmate Haley Holcombe followed in 50th (2:10.06) and freshman Gabby Aranda placed 53rd (2:10.42).
The Falcon women ended the day by taking ninth in the 400 medley relay. Laughlin, Castellanos, Katharine Ernst and Cesare clocked a time of 3:52.23, which was 12 seconds faster than the previous season best. The Air Force men's divers also competed at the Tech Invite. Freshman Peter Cialkowski took 20th in the 1m springboard with 217.55 points. Fellow freshman Alex Pecci took 22nd with 213.15 points. Day two of the three day event takes place Saturday. |
