Freshman Davis Breaks School Record in 200 IM at Houston Cougar Classic

HOUSTON, Texas - Freshman Kim Davis highlighted day one action for Air Force women's swimming at the Phill Hansel Cougar Classic by breaking the school record in the 200 yard individual medley, Thursday night at the Campus Recreation and Wellness Center. The Falcons currently sit in ninth place with 56 points.
Davis placed ninth overall with a finals time of 2:03.21. Her time beat the previous Academy mark of 2:04.15, set by Jane Hwang in 2009.
Air Force also had a personal-best swim by senior Cassie Fletcher in the 50 free. Fletcher swam the school's eight-fastest 50 free with a time of 23.90.
Freshman Clara Heffernan was Air Force's top swimmer in the 500 free. Heffernan placed 15th with a prelim time of 5:05.16, shaving 13 seconds off her previous season best. Hannah Cesare followed in 18th (5:05.58), Michelle Kuyper 24th (5:09.18) and Elizabeth Keenan (5:11.88).
Joining Davis in the 200 IM was Gabby Aranda, who had a season best time of 2:07.61 to take 24th.
The 200 free relay and 400 medley relay groups also swam season bests. The group of Fletcher, Ireland, Laughline and Alison Ceranski swam a time of 1:36.64 in the 200 free relay, shaving close to three seconds of the previous season best. The group of Laughlin, Davis, Aranda and Cesare swam the 400 medley relay in the a time of 3:53.15.
Day two of the three-day meet resumes tomorrow Friday, Nov. 18.
