Air Force Women's Swimming & Diving Competes In MWC Quad Meet

    ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The Air Force women's swimming and diving team was swept in a Mountain West Conference four-way meet at New Mexico Saturday afternoon at Seidler Natatorium. A pair of freshman cracked the Air Force top 10 marks in the backstroke events.

    The Falcons dropped head-to-head matchups to Colorado State (232-68), New Mexico (194-106) and San Diego State (245-55).

    Freshman Samantha Laughlin took fifth in the 100 back, clocking a time of 59.05, which is the 10th fastest time in school history. Right behind Laughlin was fellow classmate Erin Bleyl, who took sixth with a time of 59.56, which is the 11th fastest time in school history.

    Bleyl would later take fourth in the 200 back, with a time of 2:08.27, which is the seventh-fastest in school history. Laughlin took sixth in the 200 back with a time of 2:10.01, the 12th fastest in school history.

    Air Force also had a strong showing in the 200 butterfly. Sophomore Haley Holcombe took third in the 200 fly with a time of 2:10.19. Junior Katharine Ernst followed in fourth place with a time of 2:10.59.

    Junior Cassie Fletcher swam well for the Falcons in the sprint-free events. Fletcher placed fifth in both the 50 and 100 free events with times of 24.73 in the 50 and 54.55 in the 100.

    Freshmen Moranda Hern and Rachel Kennedy made their diving debuts for AFA. Hern took 12th in both the 1-meter and 3-meter springboard diving events with 183.20 points in the 1-meter and 185 points in the 3-meter. Kennedey placed 13th in the 3-meter with 134.85 points and 14th in the 1-meter with 148.55 points.

     

     

    Air Force returns to action Oct. 29, in a three-way meet in Golden with Colorado School of Mines and Mesa State.
