AFA Women's Swimming & Diving Downs Northern Colorado 188-107
Oct. 21, 2011 Complete Results | Photo Gallery ***Recap Updated Oct. 24 (Times for 200 Medley Relay inaccurate due to timer malfunction)*** USAF ACADEMY, Colo.- The Air Force women's swimming & diving team earned a resounding 188-107 win over Northern Colorado Friday afternoon. The Falcons improved to 2-1 on the season by taking first in all 14 swimming events. The win also avenges a 165-133 loss to Northern Colorado a season ago. The Bears' lone wins came in both diving events. Air Force opened the meet with a 1-2 sweep in the 200 medley relay. The group of Samantha Laughlin, Kim Davis, Katharine Ernst and Cassie Fletcher swam a time of 1:48.80. The Falcons also took second-place in the 200 medley relay with the group of Heather Ireland, Rosie Mayou, Haley Holcombe and Hannah Cesare. Freshman Kim Davisled the way with three individual wins. Davis dominated the breaststroke events, winning the 100 (1:06.54) and 200 breast (2:23.13) events and won the 200 individual medley (2:08.76). Sophomores Hannah Cesare and Samantha Laughlinhad two individual wins each. Cesare won the 100 (53.66) and 200 free (1:57.40) events and Laughlin dominted the backstroke, winning the 100 (58.77) and 200 back (2:08.46). Sophomore Erin Bleyl won the 1000 free (10:53.74), senior Katharine Ernst won the 200 fly (2:10.41) and junior Heather Ireland took first in the 50 free (24.27). Freshman Clara Heffernanwon the 500 free (5:19.69) and the group of Bleyl, Ireland, Fletcher and Cesare closed out the meet by winning the 400 free relay with a time of 3:36.02. Air Force diving also fared well, scoring second-through-fourth in both the 1m and 3m springboard dives. Sophomore Moranda Hernled the Falcons with second-plance finishes in both the 1m (219.82) and 3m (249.76). Air Force returns to action next Friday, Oct. 28, hosting Adams State, Colorado Mines and Mesa State.
