Air Force Swept on Day Two at WAC Shootout

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - Led again by senior captain Jane Hwang (Irvine, Calif.), the Air Force women's swimming and diving team wrapped up competition at the seven-team WAC Shootout, hosted by New Mexico State. After head-to-head scoring against Nevada, Northern Colorado and San Jose State on Friday, the Falcons dropped three duals on Saturday, falling to Boise State, 155-87, host New Mexico State, 175-67, and Northern Arizona, 130-107. Hwang, who won Friday's 200 freestyle race, finished second in the event on Saturday with a mark of 1:56.78, out-touching the third-place finisher by one one-hundredth of a second. Hwang added a sixth-place finish in the 100 free, clocking in at 54.15. Meanwhile, classmate Laken Stogner (Bowdon, Ga.) also registered a top-10 showing in the 200 free, taking ninth place in a time of 1:59.05. Sophomore Kaeli Kluesner (Denver, Colo.) recorded a pair of top-10 finishes as well, coming in sixth in the 400 IM with a mark of 4:42.09, while taking 10th place in the 200 back with a time of 2:12.21. In addition, several freshman swimmers scored top-10 performances. Alison Ceranski (Marinette, Wis.) led the way, taking fifth place in the 50 freestyle, clocking in at 24.96. Katharine Ernst (Folsom, Calif.) finished eighth in the 200 butterfly with a mark of 2:13.19, while Julie Grabarek (Laguna Niguel, Calif.) placed ninth in the 1000 free with a time of 11:15.25. The top diver for Air Force on Saturday was freshman Lauren Shetley (St. Louis, Mo.), who registered two top-10 finishes. Shetley grabbed second place in the 3-meter dive on Saturday with a score of 225.35, while finishing seventh at 1-meter with a score of 210.55.
The Falcons return to action Oct. 25, with their three-way Mountain West Conference-opener against Colorado State, New Mexico and San Diego State in San Diego. |
