Air Force Women Finish Sixth At MWC Swimming & Diving Championship

    OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - The Air Force women's team finished in sixth place with 295 points at the 2004 Mountain West Conference Swimming & Diving Championships at Oklahoma City Community College. Four-time defending conference champion BYU won for both the men's and women's field with 775.50 and 725 points, respectively. The Falcons men's team finished in second place.

    The Falcons finished second to the Cougars in men's action with 612.50 points, followed by UNLV (606), Utah (583) and Wyoming (505). The Rams took second in the women's events with 607.50 points, followed by UNLV (578), Utah (499), New Mexico (376), Wyoming (326), Air Force (295) and San Diego State (231.50).

    Lara Styles broke hew own school record in the 200 yard butterfly, finishing fifth with a finals time of 2:06.17 and prelim time of 2:05.37. In the 200 breastroke, Blair Leake finished 13th with a time of 2:21.82, which puts her fifth all-time in Air Force history.

    The top finisher for the Falcons in the 200 backstroke was Lindsey Kirchhoff, who finished 20th with a career-best time of 2:10.84. Carley Baxter was the top AFA swimmer in the 100 freestyle, finishing eighth with a time of 52.54 and a season best time of 51.76 in the prelim's.

    In the 1650 free, Julienne White was the top finisher for the Falcons finishing seventh. White improved on her previous career best by 22 seconds with a time of 17:05.60.

    Lauren Nichole Bursey took 16th for Air Force in the platform diving competition with 208.85 points. AFA concluded the meet by taking eighth in the 400 free relay. The group of Kirchhoff, Styles, Andrea Hyma and Jaymie VanKooten recorded at mark of 3:31.97.
