Falcon Women Currently Seventh After Second Day At MWC Swimming & Diving Championships

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - The Air Force women's swimming and diving team is currently in seventh place with 106 points at the Mountain West Conference Swimming & Diving Championships at Oklahoma City Community College. Leading the way is four-time defending conference champion BYU with 251 points. The Falcons men's swimming and diving team is currently in third place. Utah trails the Cougars, who lead with 305 points for the men, in men's action with 280 points, followed by Air Force (225), UNLV (221) and Wyoming (186). The Rams hold the No. 2 spot in the women's events with 231 points, followed by UNLV (204), Utah (180), New Mexico (136), Wyoming (130), Air Force (106) and San Diego State (90). Senior Carly Baxter led the way for the Falcons, taking fourth in the 50 yard freestyle. Baxter recorded her season best time with a 23.74 finish. Andrea Hyma also finished 10th for AFA in the 50 free with a career-best time of 24.00. Top finishers for Air Force in the 500 yard freestyle were the sister duo of Lauren and Julienne White. Lauren finished 13th with a career-best time of 5:02.41 and Julienne took 15th with a time of 5:03.95. Blair Leake was the top finisher for AFA in the 200 individual medley, taking 23rd with a time of 2:11.29. AFA concluded the day by taking fifth place in the 200 free relay. The group of Hyma, Lindsey Kirchhoff, Lindsay Jansen and Baxter clocked in with a time of 1:35.99.
Day three events begin Friday, Feb. 20, with preliminary events at 10 a.m. CST and finals competition at 6 p.m. The MWC Swimming & Diving Championships conclude Saturday, Feb. 22, following the 6 p.m. finals events and the announcement of the individual and team awards.
