Falcons Wrap Up Opening Day of Air Force Diving Invitational

USAFA, Colo. - With two events complete, the Air Force men's and women's diving teams wrapped up the opening day of competition Friday at the Air Force Diving Invitational, being held in the Cadet Natatorium. The men started the invitational with the 3-meter dive, while the women competed in the 1-meter springboard event. In the women's 1-meter dive, freshman Lauren Shetley (St. Louis, Mo.) was the top performer for Air Force, placing ninth with a mark of 242.25. Also competing for the Falcons were junior Chelsea Tompkins (Grand Junction, Colo.), who turned in a score of 223.45 to finish 21st in the field of 32, and senior Ashleigh Peck (Beaver Falls, Pa.) finished 23rd with a mark of 217.75. Wyoming's Stephanie Ortiz was the top finisher in the women's event, turning in a score of 286.25. Meanwhile, in the men's 3-meter dive, Air Force had a four top-10 finishers, led by David Arlington (Jr., Eagle River, Alaska), who placed fifth with a score of 289.25. Classmate Kyle Van Valkenburg (Tucson, Ariz.) was next in the standings, placing sixth with a mark of 288.60. Freshmen Jesse Bicknell (Westtown, N.Y.), with a score of 271.60, and Cheyne Clark (Bainbridge Island, Wash.), with a score of 252.05, placed eighth and ninth, respectively. Also competing for the Falcons was Nathaniel Gilbert (So., River Falls, Wis.), who finished 13th. Denver's Aaron Feight took the top spot with a mark of 368.10. The final three events of the Air Force Diving Invitational will take place tomorrow. The action start at 9:00 a.m. with the men's 1-meter springboard, followed by the women's 3-meter springboard at 10:30 a.m. The invitational will conclude with the combined platform, slated to begin at 1:30 p.m.
