Air Force Wraps Up 2009 Season At Utah
The Air Force women's soccer wraps up its 2009 season at Utah this Halloween Saturday, Oct. 31. The match kicks off at 1 p.m.. Live stats and internet radio will be available for the match.
Last Week
Air Force dropped a 3-0 match to #21 BYU last Saturday night at the Cadet Soccer Stadium. The Cougars broke open a scoreless match with a goal in the 66th minute, then scored two more goals later in the match.
Falcon Leaders
Freshman midfielder Stephanie Patterson leads the team with seven points, scoring two goals to go with three assists. Sophomore forwards Kelly Bieber and Bridgett Murphy are also tied for the team lead with two goals scored. Freshman Charity Blanton has played 853 minutes in front of the net for the Falcons, and has 45 saves on the season to go with a 2.11 goals-allowed average. Sophomore Ariana Green has started the last seven matches and has logged 701 minutes on the season to go with a 1.54 GAA and 32 saves.
One of Nation's Youngest Teams
Air Force has one of the youngest women's soccer teams in the nation, as 24 of the 28 players on the roster are underclassmen. Air Force has just two seniors and two juniors and have 12 freshmen and sophomores. Air Force has started at least eight underclassmen in every game.
Final Match For Team Captains
Team co-captains, seniors Susan Finch and Kelsey Yip, will be playing their final home match as Falcons. Both are three-year letterwinners.
Finch, a native of Reston, Va., has appeared in 55 career games, starting 28 games as a forward. Finch has one goal and three assists in her career.
Yip, a local product from Littleton, has appeared in 54 career games, starting 39. After sitting out her entire junior year due to a knee injury, Yip has returned to start all 17 games so far this year and has started in 35 consecutive games dating back to her sophomore year.
Scouting Utah
Utah enters the weekend with a 8-8-2 record after defeating Wyoming and falling to New Mexico last week. Senior midfielder Kelly Isleib leads the team with seven goals and 18 points. Sophomore Hannah Turpen has logged 1,490 minutes in front of the net and has 61 saves and a 1.21 GAA.
The Coaches
Larry Friend is in his first year as the head coach at Air Force. The 1985 USAFA grad. has 12 years of assistant coaching experience at the Academy. He is just the second women's soccer head coach at Air Force.
Rich Manning is 103-46-18 in his eighth year at Utah. Manning is a 1996 Santa Clara grad.
Opponent Connections
Air Force freshman Anna Lowe and Utah sophomore Katie Martinez are natives of Littleton and graduates of Chatfield High School.
