Air Force Drops 2-1 Match To TCU
USAF ACADEMY, Colo. -- The Air Force women's soccer team failed to overcome a sluggish start as TCU held off a late Falcon surge to down AFA, 2-1, in a Mountain West Conference match, Friday night at the Cadet Soccer Stadium. The Falcons fall to 4-13-1 on the season and 0-5 in conference play, TCU improves to 6-8-0, 1-4-0 MWC.
The Horned Frogs went up 1-0 on a goal by Bjarnveig Birgisdottir in the 12th minute. Karissa Hill fired a shot from 15 yards out that Birgisdottir redirected in midair for the score. Hill was credited with the assist. TCU made it a 2-0 match late in the first period on a goal by Lesley Parkinson. At the 39:52 mark, Parkinson took a pass from Birgisdottir and fired straight-on from the top of the box, clearing the reach of Air Force goalkeeper Jennifer Drew. After staking the Frogs a 2-0 lead, the Falcons came out a different team in the second period. Alison Wood, a Texas native (Houston), scored her first career goal for the Falcons, making it a 2-1 match in the 52nd minute. Rhett Chase sent a ball into a crowded box and Wood cleaned up with the goal in the melee. The Falcons had several scoring chances late in the match but could not capitalize. For the game, both teams took 10 shots, seven on goal for TCU and five for AFA. Drew had five saves for the Falcons and Horned Frogs keeper Katy Buchanan had four. Air Force returns to action Sunday, Oct. 23, hosting New Mexico at noon. --30--
