Air Force Hosts BYU In Home Finale
The Air Force women's soccer plays host to BYU this Saturday, Oct. 24. The 2009 home finale for a pair of Falcon seniors kicks off at 5 p.m.. Live stats will be available for the match.
Last Week
Air Force dropped a pair of 1-0 matches at TCU and New Mexico. The Falcons lost to TCU on a penalty kick in overtime and New Mexico scored the lone goal in the 56th minute on Saturday.
Falcon Leaders
Freshman midfielder Stephanie Patterson leads the team with seven points, scoring two goals to go with three assists. Sophomore forwards Kelly Bieber and Bridgett Murphy are also tied for the team lead with two goals scored. Freshman Charity Blanton has played 853 minutes in front of the net for the Falcons, and has 45 saves on the season to go with a 2.11 goals-allowed average. Sophomore Ariana Green has started the last six matches and has logged 611 minutes on the season to go with a 1.33 GAA and 27 saves.
One of Nation's Youngest Teams
Air Force has one of the youngest women's soccer teams in the nation, as 24 of the 28 players on the roster are underclassmen. Air Force has just two seniors and two juniors and have 12 freshmen and sophomores. Air Force has started at least eight underclassmen in every game.
Final Home Match For Team Captains
Team co-captains, seniors Susan Finch and Kelsey Yip, will be playing their final home match as Falcons. Both are three-year letterwinners.
Finch, a native of Reston, Va., has appeared in 54 career games, starting 27 games as a forward. Finch has one goal and three assists in her career.
Yip, a local product from Littleton, has appeared in 53 career games, starting 38. After sitting out her entire junior year due to a knee injury, Yip has returned to start all 16 games so far this year and has started in 34 consecutive games dating back to her sophomore year.
Scouting BYU
BYU enters the weekend with a 13-2-2 record after defeating TCU and New Mexico last week. Freshman MF/F Carlee Payne leads the team with 10 goals and 25 points. Sophomore McKinzie Olson has logged 1,618 minutes in front of the net and has 39 saves and a 0.61 GAA.
The Coaches
Larry Friend is in his first year as the head coach at Air Force. The 1985 USAFA grad. has 12 years of assistant coaching experience at the Academy. He is just the second women's soccer head coach at Air Force.
Jennifer Rockwood is 241-72-23 in her 15th year at BYU. Rockwood is a 1989 BYU grad.
