Falcons Drop 3-1 Match To San Diego State
USAF ACADEMY, Colo. -- Three unanswered goals rallied San Diego State to a 3-1 win over Air Force, in a Mountain West Conference women's soccer match Sunday afternoon at the Cadet Soccer Stadium. The Falcons dropped to 4-10-1 on the season and 0-2-2 in MWC play. San Diego State is now 9-6-0, 1-1-0.
The Falcons jumped out to an early lead on Brittney Perkowski's team-leading fifth goal of the season in the 14th minute. From near midfield, sophomore Rhett Chase sent a pass to the front of the box to Perkowski, who lofted a perfect shot over goalkeeper, Cat Burson, who had drifted off her line. The assist was Chase's first of her career. San Diego State came back and tied the match in the 31st minute, as Jen Mello cleaned up on a deflected shot. Erika Sutton sent a shot in from the right corner of the box, which Air Force goalkeeper Erin Wallace made a nice diving stop on. Wallace could not maintain a hold on the ball, allowing it to bounce to Mello, who shot from 10 yards out for the score. Sutton then put the Aztecs up 2-1 in the 38th minute, taking a pass from Becky Ryan and slipping the ball past Wallace to the left corner. SDSU put the match away in the 59th minute, as Mello scored her second goal on the day. Ashley Tenn sent a midfield pass over the Falcon defense to a streaking Mello, who lofted the ball over Wallace from 25 yards out. The Aztecs out-shot the Falcons 12-10, with both teams taking six shots on goal. Perkowski led the way for the Falcons, with four shots, three on goal. Wallace had three saves in the loss, Burson had five in the win. Air Force concludes its seven game home stand and will now hit the road for its next two matches. The Falcons return to action, Thurs., Oct. 13, at BYU at 7 p.m. in Provo, Utah. --30--
