Air Force Opens MWC Play Hosting Utah
The Air Force women's soccer team opens Mountain West Conference play hosting Utah this Friday, Oct. 1, at the Cadet Soccer Stadium. Kickoff has been moved back one hour to a 7 p.m. start time. Live stats will be available for the match.
Air Force returns 15 letterwinners, including eight starters in 2009. The Falcons also welcome seven freshmen. Air Force returns leading scorer Stephanie Patterson, a sophomore forward and two-time All-MWC selection in Bridgett Murphy, a junior forward.
Recapping Last Weekend
Air Force is 7-4-1 on the season after splitting its two matches at the 2010 Falcon Invitational at the Academy. The Falcons lost 1-0 to Weber State on Friday night, but rebounded to defeat VMI 3-0 on Sunday. Eryn Avjian, Megan Dozier and Bridgett Murphy netted goals and junior Sharon Aradine recorded a shutout in her first-career start vs. VMI.
A Strong Season
A little over the midway mark, Air Force has reached numbers not seen in several years. Below are some of the numbers. The Falcons have already doubled their points total (55-26) from a season ago.

Team Statistical Leaders
Sophomore forward Stephanie Patterson leads the team with 12 points four goals and four assists. Freshman forward Megan Dozier is tied for the team-lead with four goals and junior forward Bridgett Murphy leads the team with five assists. Freshman Kelly Stambaugh has logged 980 minutes in front of the net for Air Force and has a 0.83 goals against average and 48 saves.
Utah is 2-8 on the season after defeating Utah State (2-1) and falling at Arizona (1-0 OT). Senior forward Lauren Hair leads the Utes with two goals and six points. Junior Hannah Turpen has a 2.30 GAA and 52 saves for Utah at goalkeeper.
- Larry Friend is in his second year as the head coach at Air Force. The 1985 USAFA grad is 9-19-2 as a head coach.
- Rich Manning (Santa Clara `96) is 107-56-18 in his ninth season at Utah.
