Air Force hosts Drexel
Air Force women’s soccer hosts Drexel in its final non-conference match this Sunday, Sept. 22. Live video and stats will be available for the match.
Air Force dropped a pair of matches last weekend with weather affecting both. Air Force lost 3-1 to Texas on Friday in a game that was moved to Colorado College due to heavy rain making the Cadet Soccer Stadium unplayable. Freshman Maddie Lundberg scored her first career goal. On Sunday, Air Force lost 1-0 in double-overtime to Ball State. After 25 minutes of play, the Falcons and Carndinals halted play at the Cadet Soccer Stadium due to lighting. The rest of the game was completed at the Holaday Athletic Center, Air Force football’s indoor practice facility.
Air Force returns 13 letterwinners and six starters. The Falcons welcome 12 freshmen.
Air Force went 5-9-3 and finished eighth in the Mountain West Conference in 2012.
Stambaugh Building Upon AF Records
Senior Kelly Stambaugh continues to build upon her lofty resume as goalkeeper at Air Force. A fourth-year starter, Stambaugh ranks amongst the top three in nearly every goalkeeping category at Air Force. She is currently the all-time leader in goals-against average (1.10). Stambaugh ranks second at the Academy in career shutouts (15) and third in wins (18), minutes (5,148) and saves (276).
Greco Assisting On Every Score
Freshman Ashley Greco has assisted on all four Air Force goals so far this season. Her four assists are the third-most by a freshman in program history. It is the most assists by a frosh since 1998.
Drexel, located in Philadelphia, Pa., is 3-3-1 on the season after a 1-0 loss to Penn last weekend. Shyanne Kimbrough leads the Dragons with four goals scored. Eve Badana has a 0.92 GAA in goal for Drexel.
Larry Friend (USAFA 1985) is 23-48-10 in his fifth year as the head coach at Air Force.
Ray Goon (Rutgers 1985) is 89-183-29 in his 17th season at Drexel and is 117-192-31 in his 19th year overall as a head coach.
