Air Force Heads To Border Shootout
The Air Force women's soccer team heads to El Paso, Texas, to take part in the Border Shootout, this Fri.-Sun., Sept. 19-21. The Falcons take on tournament host UTEP on Friday night and Grambling State on Sunday morning.

Last Week
Air Force hosted the 2008 Falcon Invitational and took third place after defeating Army 3-0 and losing to Denver 2-1. Colorado College won the invitational, with Denver taking second and Army fourth. Air Force got goals from Krystin Shanklin, Bridgett Murphy and Roni Yadlin against Army. Yadlin scored Air Force's goal against Denver off a penalty kick.
Falcon Scoring Leaders
Senior Roni Yadlin and freshmen Bridgett Murphy lead the Falcons with two goals scored. Murphy scored a goal against Army and Yadlin scored goals against Army and Denver over the weekend. Senior Rachael Emory leads the team with two assists.
Offense Warming Up
After scoring just two goals in its first five contests, Air Force scored four goals in its two games last weekend. The Falcons erupted for three goals against Army on Friday and scored a goal against a tough, nationally-ranked Denver squad.
Curtis & Wallace Split Goal keeping Duties
With a goalkeeper-by-committee approach, junior Ashlee Curtis and senior Erin Wallace have split time in front of the Falcon net. Curtis has made six starts and logged 455 minutes in front of the net and has a 0.99 goals-against average. Wallace has made three starts and logged 180 minutes and has a 1.50 GAA. The duo has combined to record 26 saves and post a solid 1.13 GAA.
One of Nation's Youngest Teams
Air Force has 16 freshmen on its roster. That total makes up 61.5 percent of the roster. The Falcons have started six freshmen twice this year and at least five freshmen in six of seven games.
Scouting The Opponents
UTEP is 5-2 entering the weekend. The Miners lost at Weber State and Utah State last weekend. Junior Forward Tameka Sumter leads the team with four goals scored. Freshman Chandra Morden has logged 542 minutes in front of the net and has a 1.16 GAA.
Grambling State is 0-3-0 entering the week after dropping at 2-1 match to Northwestern State. The Tigers have had a rough stretch of trying to get games in, having three games postponed due to the effects of Hurricane Gustav. Sophomore Ashley Baker has scored Grambing State's lone goal this year. Junior Cherie Silas has logged all 270 minute in front of the Tiger net and has a 4.67 GAA.
The Coaches
Marty Buckley is in his 17th year as the head coach at Air Force. The 1978 Chico State (CA) grad. has a 112-186-19 record at the Academy.
Kevin Cross is in his eighth year as head coach at UTEP. The 1995 Austin College grad. has a 96-46-6 record at UTEP.
Tamura Crawley enters her third year as head coach at Grambling State. The 2003 grad of Baylor is 20-19-3 as a head coach.

Freshman defender Cassie Wilson is a native of Spring and attended Klein Oak High School.
Series History vs. Opponents
Air Force takes on UTEP for the fifth time. UTEP maintains a 3-0-1 lead in the series. The two team s last met in 2006, when the Miners defeated the Falcons 1-0 at the Academy. The first three matches were played as Western Athletic Conference foes.
