Air Force Hosts Robert Morris and Bryant University
Air Force women's soccer plays host to Robert Morris and Bryant University this weekend, Sept. 7-9. The Falcons host Robert Morris on Friday, Sept. 7 and Bryant on Sunday, Sept. 9.
Air Force returns 16 letterwinners and eight starters. The Falcons welcome 11 newcomers. Air Force returns three of its top four scorers from last season, including leading 2011 scorer in sophomore midfielder McKenna Fox.
Air Force went 6-10-3 and finished fifth in the Mountain West Conference in 2011. The Falcons graduated four seniors, all starters.
Air Force played Eastern Washington to a scoreless draw last Friday in its lone match. No goals were scored despite 45 combined shots in the match.
Junior forward Megan Dozier leads the team and ranks sixth in the Mountain West with six points, including two goals and two assists. Junior Kelly Stambaugh has a 0.35 goals against average to go with 29 saves in goal for the Falcons.
Stambaugh Off To Hot Start In Goal
Air Force goalkeeper Kelly Stambaugh has four shutouts in five matches to start the season for the Falcons. The junior ranks second in the Mountain West in both saves (29) and GAA (0.35). She currently has not allowed a goal in 220 consecutive minutes. Her 13 career shutouts already ranks second in Academy history.
Senior defender Kim Koeppen and senior midfielder Sophia Lockerby are the team captains for the 2012 season.
Scouting The Opponents
Robert Morris is 0-5-1 on the season after a 0-0 tie with Howard and 2-1 loss to Duquesne last weekend. Forwards Ayana Davis and Katie Austin lead the team with three points each. Chelsea De Jager has a 1.82 GAA in goal.
Bryant is 3-2 on the season after a 1-0 win at Holy Cross and 2-1 loss at Rhode Island. Forward Ari Goldberg leads the team with five points. Lauren Viverito has a 1.40 GAA in goal.
- Larry Friend (USAFA 1985) is 19-35-8 in his fourth year as the head coach at Air Force.
- John Kowalski (New Haven 1973) is 67-133-13 in his 12th year at RMU.
- Chris Flint (Colby College 1992) is 112-92-22 in his 12th year at Bryant.
- Air Force D/F Eryn Avjian and RMU F/D Leah Prentice both hail from Gaithersberg, Md. Avjian attended Thomas Wootton HS and Prentice, Quince Orchard HS.
Series History vs. Opponents
- Air Force plays both teams for the first time.
Air Force hosts Colgate next Friday, Sept. 14 and then travels up the road to take on Colorado on Sunday, Sept. 16, in a televised match.
