Air Force Hosts Eastern Washington To Start Parents Weekend
Air Force women's soccer plays host to Eastern Washington to start off Parents Weekend, this Friday, Aug. 31. Kickoff is 4:30 p.m., as part of a soccer doubleheader with the men's team. Admission is free for all Air Force soccer home matches.
Air Force returns 16 letterwinners and eight starters. The Falcons welcome 11 newcomers. Air Force returns three of its top four scorers from last season, including leading 2011 scorer in sophomore midfielder McKenna Fox.
Air Force went 6-10-3 and finished fifth in the Mountain West Conference in 2011. The Falcons graduated four seniors, all starters.
Air Force took both St. John's and Fairleigh Dickinson to double-overtime on the road, but came away with a loss and a tie. The Falcons rallied with a game-tying goal in the 88th minute vs. St. John's, but allowed a goal in the 108th minute to fall 2-1 to the Red Storm. Air Force played FDU to a 0-0 tie on Sunday.
Junior forward Megan Dozier leads the team and ranks second in the Mountain West with six points, including two goals and two assists. Junior Kelly Stambaugh has a 0.45 goals against average to go with 19 saves in goal for the Falcons.
Stambaugh Off To Hot Start In Goal
Air Force goalkeeper Kelly Stambaugh has three shutouts in four matches to start the season for the Falcons. The junior ranks second in the Mountain West in both saves (19) and GAA (0.45). Her 12 career shutouts already ranks second in Academy history.
Senior defender Kim Koeppen and senior midfielder Sophia Lockerby are the team captains for the 2012 season.
Scouting Eastern Washington
Eastern Washington is 0-2 to start the season after a 3-2 loss to North Dakota and 3-0 loss to Seattle. Kayla Sutter and Alisha Stott have EWUs goals. Jamie Walker has logged the most minutes in goal for the Eagles.
- Larry Friend (USAFA 1985) is 19-35-7 in his fourth year as the head coach at Air Force.
- George Hageage (Richmond 1988) is 60-136-6 in his 13th year at EWU and is 63-167-16 in his 15th year as a head coach.
- EWU sophomore midfielder Haley Stading is a native of Evergreen, Colo. and attended Evergreen High School.
Series History vs. Opponents
- Air Force played Eastern Washington for the first time last year, winning 3-2 in a neutral-site match in Boise, Idaho. Stephanie Patterson scored two goals and McKenna Fox added a score in the win.
Air Force has a pair of home matches next weekend, hosting Robert Morris on Friday, Sept. 7 and Bryant University on Sunday, Sept. 9. The Robert Morris match kicks off at 6 p.m. and the Bryant match at 12 p.m.
