Air Force Hosts Montana to Open 2014
Air Force women's soccer opens the 2014 season hosting Montana on Friday, Aug. 22, at the Cadet Soccer Stadium. Free admission, live stats and video streaming will be available for all Falcon soccer home games.
Air Force returns 14 letterwinners and seven starters. The Falcons welcome 12 freshmen.
Air Force went 3-13-2 and finished ninth in the Mountain West Conference in 2013.
Air Force's top returning goal scorer is junior forward Ally Swift, who led the team with three goals and six points as a sophomore. The Falcons return nine of their top 12 point scorers from a season ago. Air Force returns no goalkeepers from the 2013 season.
Air Force is 8-13-1 all time in season openers. The Falcons are 8-9-0 all-time in home openers. Last season, the Falcons opened with a 1-1 tie at Montana.
Senior defender Kylie Williamson is the team captain for the 2014 season. A local Colorado Springs product from Air Academy High School here on the USAFA campus, Williamson is a four-year starter in the Falcon backfield.
Air Force plays 11 of its 18 matches at home in 2014. The Falcons play six of its seven non-conference games at home. The Falcons were 2-5-1 at home last season.
Head Coach Larry Friend
Larry Friend (USAFA 1985) is 25-56-11 entering his sixth year as the head coach at Air Force. Friend is just the second head coach in Air Force women's soccer history, succeeding Marty Buckley, who coached the program from its inception in 1992 to 2008.
- Montana head coach Mark Plakorous was an assistant coach with the Air Force soccer program from 1999-2001.
- Montana has four players on its roster from Colorado, including one from Colorado Springs.
