Air Force Women's Soccer Welcomes 12 Newcomers To 2007 Team

USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - An All-American and three all-state selections highlight the incoming women's soccer class of 2011 at the Air Force Academy, announced today by head women's soccer coach Marty Buckley. The 12 freshmen look to be integral additions for the Falcons in 2007.

"This is another strong incoming class for us" Buckley said. "We are confident they will come in and add immediate depth to our team. They are solid players and our coaching staff expects them to compete right away."

Shannon Nail comes to the Academy earning All-American honors as a defender at Golden West high school in Visalia, Calif. Lyndsey Horn (New Mexico), Leah Nielsen (Michigan) and Madison Shottleutner (Texas) were all-state selections.

The Falcons begin practicing on August 6 in preparation for the 2007 season. Air Force opens the season on August 15 with a home exhibition match against Metro State.

Jessica Brown (Defender/Canyon, Texas/Canyon HS): Lettered four years in soccer and one in track...three-time all-district selection...team captain...earned the Fighting Eagle Award in 2007...newcomer of the year as a freshman...National Honor Society member...National Merit Commended Scholar...high school soccer coach was Tammy Stephenson...played club soccer for the High Plains Drifters.

Tiffanie Christoffersen (Goalkeeper/Colorado Springs, Colo./Liberty HS): Lettered four years in soccer...best of the best goalkeeper all four years...all-league...All-American scholar-athlete...high school soccer coach was Mike Goyden...played club soccer for the Colorado Storm Academy...was teammates at Liberty with Falcon senior Katherine Slogic.

Erin Flanigan (Midfielder/Las Vegas, Nev./Bishop Gorman HS): Lettered three years in soccer and track and one year in football...was the first female ever to play for the varsity football team (as a place kicker)...National and Science Honor Society member...high school soccer coach was Nick Arbelaez...played club soccer for the Rebels Select team.

Lyndsey Horn (Defender/Albuquerque, N.M./Albuquerque Academy): Lettered four years in soccer...all-state...all-metro...team co-captain...high school soccer coach was Peter Clinch...played club soccer for AVFC `89.

Sarah Horton (Midfielder/Manassas, Va./Osbourn Park HS): Lettered four years in soccer...first-steam all-district and MVP as a senior...all-district as a sophomore and junior...on the Virginia ODP State team as a freshman and junior...on the Northern Virginia ODP team for three years...National and Spanish Honor Society member...high schoolsoccer coach was Robert Watters...played club soccer for the Northern Virginia Majestics.

Shannon Nail (Defender/Visalia, Calif./Golden West HS): Lettered four years in soccer...three-time first-team All-American...WYL League MVP 06-07...WYL League defensive MVP 05-06...team captain...had 10 assists out of the backfield as a senior...Fresno Bee 2007 Girls Soccer All-Star...All-WYL...CSF life member...high school soccer coach was Manel Cotta...played club soccer for South Valley United.

Ali Neptune (Mid/Forward/Parkland, Fla./Stoneman Douglas HS/Loyola Marymount Univ.): Attended Loyola Marymount University last year and was on the soccer team but did not appear in any games...lettered four years in soccer and track in high school...led Stoneman Douglas to State tournament all four years...two-time all-county selection in cross country...Wendy's High School Heisman nominee....high school soccer coach was Laura Rountree...track coach was her father, Jerry Neptune...high school was ranked #1 in the nation by the NSCAA/adidas poll...starred for the Weston Soccer Club as a member of the Weston Fury.

Leah Nielsen (Midfielder/Charlotte, Mich./Charlotte HS): Lettered four years in soccer and tennis...all-state...two-time first-team all-district selection...team MVP...all-conference...National Honor Society member...high school soccer coach was Ryan Sisco...played club soccer for the Phoenix.

Sarah Petersen (Forward/Staten Island, N.Y./Tottenville HS): Three-time team MVP and scholar athlete...Staten Island Advance All-Star...NYI Athlete...National Honor Society member...high school coach was George Kaplan...played club soccer for team Albertson.

Haley Puffenbarger (Defender/Fairfax Station, Va./Lake Braddock Secondary School): Lettered two years in soccer and one in track...team captain...athletic honor award winner...National Honor Society member...National Honor Roll...helped lead Braddock to Virginia Girls State title in 2006...was born at the at the Air Force Academy hospital...high school soccer coach was Liz Pike...played club soccer for Lee Mt. Vernon Soccer Patriots.

Madison Schottleutner (Goalkeeper/McKinney, TX/Ursuline Academy of Dallas): Lettered four years in soccer...first-team all-state...first-team all-conference...first-team all-district...National Honor Society member...on the Dean's list...graduated Summa Cum Laude...high school soccer coach was Jamie Cantrell...played club soccer for the DFW Tejanoes `89.

Elizabeth Smith (Goalkeeper/Richmond, Va./Clover Hill HS): Lettered three years in soccer and basketball...match and science specialty center award winner...high school soccer coach was Shawn Martin...played club soccer for the Richmond Kickers.
