Murphy Named Women's Soccer MVP

    USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Air Force women's soccer coach Larry Friend announced his team awards for the 2011 season. Senior forward Bridgett Murphy earned the team's Most Valuable Player award.

    Murphy, a native of Melbourne Beach, Fla. was named team MVP for the second-consecutive season. In addition, she also earned team Offensive MVP honors as well The senior is a four-time All-Mountain West selection. Murphy led the team with five assists and ranked second with four goals and 13 points. Murphy has racked up several accolades this season, earning all-regional and academic all-district honors.

    Senior defender Cassie Wilson earned Defensive MVP honors. A native of Klein, Texas, Wilson was the lead backer in the Falcon backfield that held opponents to a 1.37 goals allowed average. The team had six shutouts this season, which is second all-time in the Div. I era.

    Junior midfielder Sophia Lockerby earned the Players' Award, freshman McKenna Fox earned the Rookie of the Year award and senior Krystin Shanklin earned the Coaches' Award.

    Lockerby started 11-of-18 games played for the Falcons and recorded one assists. Fox led the Falcons with seven goals and 17 points. Her seven goals were the most by a Falcon since 2001 and the most by a freshman since 1997. Shanklin started all 19 games for the Falcons, scoring one goal.
