Air Force Drops Heartbreaker in Overtime at San Diego State, 2-1

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The Air Force women's soccer team dropped a 2-1 Mountain West Conference match in overtime at San Diego State Thursday night at the SDSU Sports Deck. The loss drops the Falcons to 7-7-1, 0-3 while the Aztecs improved to 4-8-3, 2-1. Carly Johnson's golden goal in the 99th minute rallied San Diego State to the win. Despite getting out-shot 30-5 and on the opposite end of a 14-0 corner kick disadvantage, the Falcons hung tough and gave the Aztecs all they could handle. San Diego State took an early 1-0 lead with a goal in the 22nd minute by Soledad Gomez. Haley Palmer assisted on the score. The Falcons tied it up in the 75th minute on sophomore Stephanie Patterson's fifth goal of the season on a strike off the left post. Freshman Megan Dozier assisted on the score. Johnson then broke up the tie on a a header off a corner from Palmer. Freshman goalkeeper Kelly Stambaugh recorded 10 saves in the loss. Air Force returns to action Saturday, Oct. 16, at UNLV.
