Air Force Wins Falcon Invitational Despite 2-1 Loss To UC Irvine

USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - The Air Force women's soccer team took first-place in the 2007 Falcon Invitational despite a 2-1 loss to UC Irvine Sunday afternoon at the Falcon Invititational at the Cadet Soccer Stadium. With all four teams in the tournament going 1-1, the Falcons (2-6-2) took first-place in the tournament with the tie-breaker of most goals scored in the tournament.
Earlier in the day, North Dakota State defeated Northern Colorado, 2-1. UC Irive (5-3-1) took second place, North Dakota State (6-4-0) third and Northern Colorado (3-5-1) fourth.
The Anteaters scored two goals midway through the second period to build a 2-0 lead. Tanya Taylor scored the first goal in the 68th minute from 10 yards out off a long pass from Caty Cope. Milana Shabestari knocked in the second goal in the 74th minute off a penalty kick.
Sophomore Ashlee Curtis made her first start of the year at goalkeeper for the Falcons, recording two saves in the loss. Erin Henry recorded four saves in the win for UCI.
Junior Kristen Wolverton of Air Force was named tournament defensive MVP. UC Irvine's Nikki Forrest was named tournament offensive MVP.
Air Force returns to action Saturday, Oct. 6, opening Mountain West Conference play at TCU.
