Falcons fall to Portland State, 2-0

    Portland State scored two goals in the first half and held on for a 2-0 win over Air Force in a non-conference women's soccer match, Sunday, Sept. 29, in Portland, Ore.

    Viking Katie Miyake opened the scoring in the 11th minute from Megan Plinski. Julie Forrest gave PSU a 2-0 lead from Carly Sawhill at 35:16.

    Portland State, 6-2-3 overall this season, out-shot the Falcons 10-3 in the first half. The Falcons generated more offense in the second half, out-shooting PSU, 8-7, in a scoreless second half. AFA's only two shots on goal in the game came in the second half and were saved by Viking goalkeeper Joell Giger.

    Falcon goalkeeper J.J. Wolf started the game and played the first 45 minutes. She allowed two goals without making a save. Jennifer Monson played the final 45 minutes and stopped the only two shots on goal she faced.

    PSU out-shot the Falcons 17-11 in the game and had a 7-5 advantage in corner kicks. AFA was whistled for 16 fouls, 10 in the first half, while PSU was called for nine.

    AFA, 4-6 overall this season, returns home to play four straight at the Cadet Soccer Stadium. The Falcons host a pair of non-conference games this weekend before opening conference play Oct. 10. AFA hosts UNC Greensboro Friday, Oct. 4, at 3 p.m. The Falcons then play UC Santa Barbara Sunday, Oct. 6, at 1 p.m.
