Oregon State beats Air Force, 5-1

    Oregon State's Courtney Carter tallied three goals by the 25th minute of OSU's women's soccer match with Air Force on Sunday, paving the way to a 5-1 win in non-conference action at Lorenz Field at Valley Stadium.

    Her first score off a centering pass from Stacey Mescher at 14:14. Nine minutes later, Carter scored on a direct kick from 10 yards out to give the Beavers a 2-0 advantage at 23:06. Carter's most impressive goal was her third, which she launched from roughly 20 yards out on the right wing after slipping past a defender. Carter's shot sailed to the far upper corner of the net at 24:29.

    Carter's second and third goals were scored with one minute and 23 seconds.

    Lindsey Beem scored in the 32nd minute and Katie Magnuson scored in the 45th minute to give the Beavers a 5-0 cushion.

    In the second half, Air Force's Cookie Day took advantage of a direct kick from 12 yards out to put the Falcons (4-5-0) on the board and make the score 5-1. Day blasted a ball into the upper right corner, just out of the reach of OSU's Alicia Artuso at the 77:25 mark. Artuso replaced starting keeper Jo Fletcher in the 56th minute and went on to record three saves in her OSU debut. Several OSU reserves saw significant time in the second half. Air Force plays at Portland State on Sunday, Sept. 29.
