USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Air Force women’s soccer (4-4-1, 1-0-1 MW) defeated Wyoming (5-4-0, 1-1-0 MW), 1-0, in overtime Sunday afternoon at Cadet Soccer Stadium. Senior Brooke Rittmann scored in the 98th minute to complete an unbeaten weekend for the Falcons.
After playing to a scoreless tie in regulation, it was the Falcons that came away with the win. Freshman Jillian Jamero weaved her way into the box and passed off to junior Taylor Cobb. Cobb sent a pass across the box, finding Rittmann in the middle. Rittmann squared a header to the top of the net for the game-winner.
The Falcons battled to the win despite a 20-12 shot disadvantage. Junior goalkeeper Jennifer Hiddink had 11 saves in goal for Air Force.
“Today was an epic Front Range battle,” Air Force head coach Larry Friend said. “The game could have gone either way. Wyoming had some very good chances at the end of the second half. We just put together a very nice play from Jillian Jamero to Taylor Cobb and Brooke Rittmann for the finish. Its really important to pick up points in the opening weekend because this going to be a long and very tight Mountain West race.”
Rittmann and senior Angela Karamanos led the Falcons with four shots each. Brittney Stark led Wyoming with seven shot attempts.
The Falcons conclude its five-game home stand with a 3-1-1 record.
Air Force returns to action Friday, Sept. 29, at Nevada.
