USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Air Force women’s soccer (3-4-1, 0-0-1 MW) played Colorado State (2-4-3, 0-0-1 MW) to a 1-1 tie on Friday night at Cadet Soccer Stadium. The Falcons rallied back with an equalizer in the 71st minute from senior Angela Karamanos.
Emma Shinsky scored the first goal of the match in the 63rd minute to put Colorado State up 1-0. Alex Lanning sent in a ball that was unable to be cleared. On a 50/50 ball, it was Shinsky who made it to the ball first, tapping past the Falcon defenders for the score.
Karamanos tied the match up with a goal in the 71st minute. Karamanos scored on a header off a corner kick from Kaylee Shalongo for her first goal of the season.
The Falcons held a 24-10 advantage in shots and led 6-0 in corner kicks. Junior Jennifer Hiddink had five saves in goal for Air Force.
“It was a heck of an effort for both teams tonight,” Air Force head coach Larry Friend said. “Its our fifth time playing them in conference and four games have gone into overtime. A lot of credit to CSU coach Bill Hempen. He’s a true legend in the game. I’m proud of my team for finding a way to stay focused for the entire 110 minutes. We’re now focusing towards our battle on Sunday against Wyoming.”
Air Force returns to action Sunday, Sept. 24, hosting Wyoming. Kickoff is 12 pm MT.
