USAFA, Colo. - Senior forward Stephanie Patterson scored a pair of goals as the Air Force women's soccer team came from behind for a 2-1 victory over Sam Houston State Friday evening at the Cadet Soccer Stadium. With the win, the Falcons move to 5-2-3 on the season, including a 4-0-2 mark at home.
The Falcons trailed 1-0 at the half after Sam Houston State's Shelby McDaniel capitalized on an Air Force turnover to find the back of the net in the 36th minute. The equalizer came in the 62nd minute, as Patterson scored on the Falcons' first penalty kick of the season. She added the game-winning goal in the 68th minute, moving past Bearkat goalkeeper Kylie Hambleton to score on an open net.
While both teams took 15 shots in the game, Air Force had the edge in shots on goal (8 to 4). Meanwhile, Sam Houston State was called for 12 fouls, compared to just four for the Falcons.
Air Force returns to action next Sunday, Sept. 30, when it opens up Mountain West play in a 1 p.m. (PT) contest at Fresno State.
