Air Force Dominates Grambling State, 3-0, At Border Shootout

    EL PASO, Texas - Freshman Bridgett Murphy scored a pair of goals to lead the Air Force women's soccer past Grambling State, 3-0, Sunday at the Border Shootout at University Field. The Falcons improved to 3-6 on the season, while the Tigers fell to 1-6.

    The Falcons scored all three goals just 28 minutes into the match and coasted to the win. Murphy notched her team-leading fourth and fifth goals of the season and finished the Shootout with three goals.

    Murphy scored her first goal just three minutes and twenty one seconds into the match with the assist from Krystin Shanklin.

    Air Force made it a 2-0 game in the 24th minute, as Roni Yadlin converted on a penalty kick. It was Yadlins second PK goal and third overall on the season.

    Just four minutes later, Murphy put the Falcons up 3-0, taking a cross from Susan Finch and tapping it into the net. Her three game-winning goals on the season ties the Air Force freshman record, joining Dolly Pasini, who did the same in 1993.

    The Falcons completely dominated the match, taking 28 shots, 15 on goal. Grambling State was held to six shots, three on goal. Air Force also took 10 corner kicks to none by the Tigers.

    Senior Erin Wallace started and played the first 45 minutes in front of the net for the Falcons, recording a save. Freshman Ariana Green made her Air Force debut at goalkeeper in the second period, recording two saves in 45 shutout minutes of action.

    The Falcons return to action with one game next weekend. Air Force hosts San Jose State on Friday, Sept. 26 in its non-conference finale prior to Mountain West Conference play.
