Air Force Downed By Denver, 2-1, In Day Two Action At Falcon Invitational

USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Taryn Hemmings scored a pair of goals to lead Denver (4-1-1) to a 2-1 win over Air Force (2-5) in women's soccer action at the 2008 Falcon Invitational Sunday at the Cadet Soccer Stadium. Colorado College (6-0-1) claimed the tournament title with a 3-0 win over Army (4-3) in the morning match. Denver claimed second place and Air Force third, followed by Army. Hemmings gave DU an early 1-0 lead scoring in the 14th minute. Hemmings took a pass from Caitlin Rollins and curled a shot over Falcon goalkeeper Ashlee Curtis for the score. Air Force tied the match up in the 24th minute, successfully converting a penalty kick by Roni Yadlin. Freshman Bridgett Murphy was taken down inside the box, allowing Yadlin to take the PK. It was Yadlin's second goal in as many days. The Pioneers came back in the 54th minute, as Hemmings struck again with the game-winning goal. Hemmings took a pass across the box from Lizzy Carlson and redirected the pass into the right side of the net for her third goal of the invitational. Denver held a 16-8 advantage in shots attempted and a 7-3 lead in shots on goal. Mackenzie Snyder had two saves in goal for the Pioneers and Curtis had five for the Falcons. In the morning game, Colorado College erupted for three goals in a 3-0 win over Army. Lauren Talbot scored the first goal in the 35th minute on a header off a corner kick from Alison Kreisler. The second goal came in the 59th minute as Ericka Baer took a pass from Sydney Fetter for the score. The Tigers added the third goal just two minutes later as Molly Uyenishi converted on a penalty kick.
