Air Force Scores Late-Game Goal To Down Davidson
Sept. 7, 2007
USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Ashley Collins' goal in the 80th minute propelled Air Force to a 1-0 win over Davidson, in women's soccer action Friday afternoon at the Cadet Soccer Stadium. The win improves the Falcons to 1-2 on the season, while Davidson falls to 1-2.
Collins got to a ball that was deflected by several players inside the Davidson box and fired a rocket from 15 yards out. Davidson goalkeeper Bevin English was able to get her hands on the ball, but not clean enough, as the ball deflected into the net for the score.
After a neck-and-neck first half, Air Force jumped all over Davidson in the second half, outshooting the Wildcats, 6-0 in the latter half. Davidson seemed to be affected by the altitude and ran out of steam. The Wilcats were held to just two shots in the game by a stingy Falcon defense.
Junior Erin Wallace picked up the win in goal for the Falcons, recording her ninth career shutout, moving her into sole possession of third place all-time at the Academy.
Seven Falcons got shots off, with Collins and sophomore Kelsey Yip recording two shots each.
Courtney Hart and Katharine Laco had the two shots for Davidson.
Air Force returns to action this Sunday, hosting McNeese State. Kickoff is slated for 10:30 a.m.
Schedule Update: The Air Force-Northern Colorado match that was postponed on Wed., Sept. 5, due to weather, has been rescheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 9 at 4 p.m. at the Academy.
