Air Force Falls To Northern Colorado, 3-1

USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - The Air Force women's soccer team dropped a 3-1 match to Northern Colorado Friday night at the Cadet Soccer Stadium. The loss moved the Falcons to 1-3-1 on the season and improved the Bears to 2-2. After an early Air Force goal, Northern Colorado put up three unanswered goals to pull away with the win. The Falcons struck 15 minutes into the match as freshman Stephanie Patterson took a pass from freshman Sophia Lockerby and lofted a soft shot over the head of Bear goalkeeper Kirsten Salminen for the first score. It was all Northern Colorado from that point on as the UNC tied it up in the 35th minute on a score by Ariel Cook off a pass from Kimmie Fielder. The Bears then jumped ahead on a goal by Sydney VanderVelde in the 41st minute. J.J. Wystra then scored the third UNC goal in the 52nd minute. Falcon goalkeeper Charity Blanton had 11 saves in the loss. Salminen had five for the Bears. Air Force had 10 shots, six on goal, with Patterson leading the way with five shots. Air Force returns to action Sunday, Sept. 6, hosting New Mexico State. Kickoff is slated for 11 a.m.
