Late Heroics Lift Air Force To 1-0 Win Over Montana
Aug. 19, 2012
USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Air Force broke up a tough match with Montana with a goal in the 80th minute to pull out a gutty 1-0 win Sunday afternoon at the Cadet Soccer Stadium. The win lifted the Falcons to 2-0 on the season while the Grizzlies dropped to 1-1. In an evenly played match with no team really ever fully taking control, the turning point came on a free kick. Junior Megan Dozier was pulled down at the top of the box to set up a free kick. Junior Leah Bratt then curled the free kick around the Montana wall to the lower-right post for the lone goal of the match, coming at the 79:34 mark. The Falcons improved to 2-0 for the second consecutive season and just the second time in the past 10 years. Junior goalkeeper Kelly Stambaugh notched her second-straight shutout to start the season, recording five saves in the win. Air Force held a 9-6 advantage in shots and 6-5 advantage in shots on goal. Montana was called for 10 offsides to AFA's three. The Falcons return to action Aug. 25 at St. John's.
