DENVER - Air Force women's soccer opened the 2017 season with a tough 1-0 setback at Denver Friday night at CIBER Field. The game was part of the Colorado Cup.
In a match that was even for most of the night, it was Denver that got the break at the end. Off a corner set, Denver's Jessie Dancy got to a loose ball off a corner kick and split a defender and goalkeeper Jennifer Hiddink at the 92:29 mark for the lone goal of the match.
Just seconds earlier, Hiddink had kept the Falcons in the game by punching a shot over the top of the crossbar to set up the corner kick The junior had nine saves on the night.
Air Force had 10 shots on the day. Junior Kaitlyn Cook led the Falcons with four shots, one on goal. Freshman Jilliam Jamero added two shots.
During regulation it was a see-saw battle that saw both teams with several opportunities to score.
Air Force returns to action Sunday, Aug. 20, against Northern Colorado at approximately 1:15 pm. The game will be part of a Colorado Cup tripleheader at Prentup Field in Boulder.
Also, prior to the Sunday match, all six Div. I programs from the state of Colorado will participate in a Special Olympics clinic tomorrow at Westminster City Park in Westminster from 3-5 pm.
