Falcons Open 2012 With 3-0 Win Over Lamar

    USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Air Force women's soccer (1-0) opened the 2012 season with a resounding 3-0 win over Lamar (0-1) Friday evening at the Cadet Soccer Stadium. Junior forward Megan Dozier led the Falcons with a pair of goals.

    Air Force got on the scoreboard with a goal by Dozier in the 35th minute. Dozier took a long cross-field pass sent over the defense by Eryn Avjian and shot from 20 yds out on the right corner of the box to the top left corner of the net.

    The Falcons made it 2-0 with a goal by Leah Bratt in the 43rd minute. Bratt took a pass from Sarah Falvey and fired a strike from 30 yards out, straight-on over the keepers' reach.

    Dozier made it a 3-0 game with her second goal of the evening, coming in the 61st minute. Dozier fired from 15 yards out, curling the ball around the goalkeepers reach to the left post.

    The Falcons dominated the match, holding a 17-9 shots advantage and 11-4 shots on goal advantage. Junior Kelly Stambaugh had four saves in the shutout win.

    Six Falcon freshmen made their debuts. Christy Cooper, Bailee Harnett, Ally Swift, Rebecca Beasley, Sarah Falvey and Katie Case played in their first collegiate match.

    Air Force returns to action Sunday, Aug. 19, hosting Montana. Kickoff is 1 p.m.
