Q&A With Senior Cassie Wilson
By C2C Sarah Haas
Women's soccer player Cassie Wilson is in her senior season at Air Force. The second-year team captain has helped lead the Falcons to a 6-5-3 record so far in 2011. She recently stopped for a chat with Cadet Second Class Sarah Haas.
Can you tell us how this past weekend went in the games vs. Nebraska Omaha and Northern Arizona?
The games were tough, but we worked hard and kept our opponents from being able to really create much against us. At the end of the day, we didn't get the results we wanted, but we out worked our opponents and got the best result we could.
As a defensive player, you're not expected to score much. Does it make it extra special when you got the assist in the Nebraska Omaha game?
Getting an assist was awesome for me! I know myself and the other girls I play back with love to contribute not only on defense but offense as well. We take pride as defensive players to be able to help our team get on the scoreboard.
What does it mean to you to earn both goAirForceFalcons.com athlete of the week and Mountain West Defensive Player of the Week?
Getting athlete of the week and defensive player means a lot to me. These almost four years have been a life changing experience and getting recognition for myself and my team is huge. I couldn't have gotten either without the girls who I play with! We have worked so hard and it's awesome others are starting to see that.
The defense seems to be clicking in the last few games, having held your last three opponents scoreless. Can you tell us why the defense has been so successful lately?
The defense has finally gotten its swag back. We feel confident and trust in one another's ability again. We have just gotten a lot closer and a lot more comfortable with each other. We're just ready to get out and work as a tight knit unit for our team.
You enter Mountain West play this weekend starting at Boise State. What is the goal of the team as you enter conference play and what does the team need to do to be successful in the MW games?
Our team is ready and dedicated to get to the Mountain West conference tournament. We just need to trust in our talent and all the hard work we've put in to reach this goal of ours. We couldn't be more excited to go in and show our conference who we are, the CRU.
