USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - During the fall semester, the Air Force men's and women's gymnastics teams hosted several community events for local children at the Academy's Cadet West Gym. These interactive events have allowed the community, both at USAFA and within the Colorado Springs area, the chance to interact with the gymnasts and learn more about the sport.
The highlight event of the fall semester was the program's first-ever Gymnastics Day, where nearly 200 children under the age of 13 were able to learn the basics of the sport from the Air Force gymnasts. The event, which provided the participants with the opportunity to receive one-on-one time with Academy gymnasts on the apparatuses used during collegiate competition, also included additional activities such an obstacle course, a foam pit, a trampoline, a parachute and an appearance by Air Force's mascot, The Bird.
Air Force also held its first "Halloween Spooktactular" event, which included an introduction of the 2014 squad, a tumbling demonstration and trick-or-treating.
The Falcons will hold their annual preview show - the Blue-Silver Scrimmage - at Cadet West Gym on Saturday, Dec. 7, while the season officially gets underway for both squads on Saturday, Jan. 11. The men open the season hosting the annual Rocky Mountain Open at the Academy's West Gym, while the women's season gets underway with a triangular meet at Minnesota.
