USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Featuring four opponents that finished last season ranked in the Top-20, the Air Force women's gymnastics team released its schedule for the upcoming 2014 campaign this afternoon. The Falcons, under the direction of head coach Doug Day, will host five home meets and travel to six road competitions during the regular season, which begins on Saturday, Jan. 11.
With a talented squad driven by six seniors, Day has assembled one of the program's most ambitious schedules on record. The Falcons will welcome Auburn (finished 13th in 2013) and Arizona (17th) to the Academy's Cadet West Gym, while traveling to Minnesota (eighth) and Denver (20th).
Air Force opens the 2014 campaign on Saturday, Jan. 11, when it travels to Minneapolis, Minn., for a triangular meet with Minnesota and Lindenwood. The Falcons remain on the road for the next two Saturdays, as they compete at Texas Woman's University on Jan. 18 and Denver on Jan. 25.
The Falcons open the home portion of the schedule on Saturday, Feb. 1, when it hosts Utah State and Seattle Pacific at Cadet West Gym. Air Force remains at home the following Saturday (Feb. 8) for a dual meet with Auburn, before returning to the road for a rematch with Lindenwood on Sunday, Feb. 23, in St. Charles, Mo.
Air Force will close the month of February with the first of three competitions against Eastern Michigan. Following home dual meets with EMU on Wednesday, Feb. 26, and Saturday, March 1, both schools will head to Ypsilanti, Mich., for Eastern Michigan's annual Eagle Invitational on Saturday, March 8 (also featuring Northern Illinois and Temple). A road contest at New Hampshire (Friday, March 14) and a home meet with Arizona (Monday, March 17) round out the Falcons' regular season.
The championship season begins for Air Force on Saturday, March 22, when it heads to Davis, Calif., for the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships. The Falcons will also compete at the NCAA Regional Championships (site TBA) on Saturday, April 5, before heading to Providence, R.I., for the USA Gymnastics Collegiate National Championships on April 11-13. The 2014 collegiate season comes to a close at the NCAA National Championships on April 18-20 in Birmingham, Ala.
