Falcons Receive Top Honors At USAGs
April 15, 2002 Air Force women's gymnastics assistant coach Holly Saunders was named USA Gymnastics Collegiate Assistant Coach of the Year and Kimberly Broughton received the Senior Women's Athlete Award last weekend at the USAG Collegiate National Championships in Springfield, Mass. The Falcons capped off their post-season by winning their second consecutive USAG National Collegiate Championship team title in Springfield with a championship-record 194.150. Air Force also claimed the individual all-around champions, Jennifer Dougherty and Broughton who tied for first with a score of 38.875, this year's vault champion Dougherty and balance beam champion Allison Todd. Todd finished second on floor exercise, followed by Bethany Stott at third, Dougherty at fifth and Broughton who finished sixth. Broughton also finished fourth on vault. Stott took third all-around with a score of 38.725 and Todd finished fifth with a 38.575.
The Falcons finished the regular season 8-8 and began their post-season with a second-place finish at the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships hosted by Air Force, followed by a fifth-place finish at the NCAA North Central Region Championships in Denver, Colo.
