WOODLAND, Calif. – Three members of the Air Force women’s gymnastics team received academic accolades from the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation this morning (April 14), as executive director Al Beaird announced the list of MPSF All-Academic Scholar-Athletes for the 2017 gymnastics season.
The Falcons were represented on the conference’s All-Academic list by senior Darby Germain (West Point, N.Y.), sophomore Mariana Murphy (Phoenix, Ariz.) and senior Kara Witgen (Romeo, Mich.). It is the first such honor for Murphy and Germain, while Witgen became just the fifth Academy gymnast to earn the honor in every year of eligibility (2015, 2016, 2017).
To be considered for an All-Academic Scholar-Athlete selection, student-athletes must hold a GPA of 3.0 or higher, be at least a sophomore with one full academic year completed at the member institution, and have competed in 50-percent or more of the institution’s competitions.
A total of 35 gymnasts were named MPSF All-Academic Scholar-Athletes for the 2017 season.
