Falcons Head to USAG Championships

    The Air Force women's gymnastics team closes out the 2013 season this weekend with the USA Gymnastics Collegiate National Championships in Shreveport, La. The meet, which will run from Friday, April 12, to Sunday, April 14, will be held at the Gold Dome on the campus of Centenary College of Louisiana. The Falcons open competition on Friday in the 2 p.m., qualifying session.

    MEET INFORMATION
    The three days of competition at the USAG Championships are broken down into two qualifying sessions (April 12), team finals (April 13) and event finals (April 14). All-session tickets are $25 for adults and $15 for students, while individual session tickets are $10 and $7. The top two teams from each qualifying session on Thursday will advance to the team finals, while the top individual performers from the first day will move on to the individual event finals.

    SCHEDULING 101
    The Falcons will compete in the first qualifying session on Friday, which is slated to begin at 2 p.m. Joining the Falcons in the opening group will be Brown, Cornell and Texas Woman's University. The second session, which will be held at 7 p.m., will include Bridgeport, Centenary, Pennsylvania and Seattle Pacific.

    IN THE RANKINGS
    As a team, Air Force is ranked second in the USAG on the uneven bars, with a Regional Qualifying Score of 48.615. Individually, four Falcons have combined for six placements among the division's top-10. Linnaea Hance is ranked fourth on the uneven bars (9.800 RQS) and fifth in the all-around (38.655), while Katie Hawthorne is ranked fourth in the all-around (38.670) and ninth on the uneven bars (9.760). In addition, Jessica Wallander is ranked sixth on the vault (9.805) and Jessica Hanner is tied for eighth on the balance beam (9.740).

    LAST TIME WE MET...
    Of its three opening-round opponents, Air Force has only faced Texas Woman's University this season. The Falcons hold a 1-1 record against the Pioneers, as the teams split a home-and-home series. From the second session, Air Force has faced Seattle Pacific (2-1) and Centenary (0-1) during the 2013 campaign.

    WALLANDER PACES FALCONS AT REGIONAL MEET
    Jessica Wallander posted the best individual event finish of the four Falcons that competed at the NCAA Regional Championships on April 6, as she tied for 13th on the vault (9.825). The sophomore also competed as an event specialist on the floor exercise and uneven bars.

    AIR FORCE TRIO COMPETES IN ALL-AROUND
    With a 14th-place score of 38.550, Jen Larsen paced a trio of all-around competitors at the regional meet. Katie Hawthorne added a 15th-place tally of 38.500, while Linnaea Hance scored a 37.925 to take 16th. Larsen's highest score came on the floor exercise (9.700), while Hawthorne and Hance recorded their best scores on the uneven bars (9.650) and vault (9.725), respectively.

    Jen Larsen's 14th-place tally matches Linnaea Hance's 2012 placement as the program's best since 2005.
