Women's Gymnastics Head Coach Lisa Woody On NCAA Regionals

The Air Force women's gymnastics team competed for the first time in the history of the program at the NCAA Regional Championships this past Saturday. We had a great time while we were in Salt Lake City and went into the competition with the attitude of just focusing on our team and having fun!

Thanks to everyone who sent us faxes at the hotel wishing us luck ---the team really loves knowing there are so many people out there who support them!

Knowing that we were expecting lower than normal scores...the team did not worry about what the judges' scores were at all...we just wanted to hit our routines!

We started on Vault and hit five out of six!

Bars = Four out of six (counted one fall)

Beam = the only team there to hit six for six routines...we scored a 48.600 second only to Utah who had a 48.675… we had two people place on this event: C2C (Jr.) Beth Stott and C1C (Sr.) Kristi Delcour who both scored a 9.775 to tie for sixth!

Floor = Five out six routines were hit!

Overall - an awesome experience for our team and great exposure for our program. The team received so many complements from other gymnasts, coaches and administrators who could not believe how good the team is now. In addition--I was voted NCAA Head Coach of the Year for our region...which comes as a huge surprise since our region has so many top ranked Division I programs. I am so honored to receive this recognition and this hopefully will show that the AFA women's gymnastics team is a highly competitive and dedicated Division I NCAA program to be reckoned with!

The teams that qualified to the NCAA National Championships from this meet were: Univ. of Utah and Denver University.

Now---we move on to the USAG Collegiate National Championships... We leave at 10:00 am tomorrow--Tuesday 10-April headed for Sacramento airport then to Davis, CA!

We go into this meet ranked #1 overall and #1 on three out of the four events. But rankings won't matter once we start the competition! Any one of the teams there can pull away with a win if they hit!
