Head Coach Lisa Woody On Denver and Home Meet

    The Air Force women's gymnastics team competed at Denver University along with Texas Woman's University this past Thursday and came away with a team total of 193.825, which definitely helps our chances to qualify for NCAA Regionals!! Denver won the meet with a school record of 196.625, but the Falcons did come away with a win against TWU, who at 2.25 points behind AFA scored a 191.575. Air Force bettered TWU on each event at the meet. TWU is the defending USAG Collegiate National Team Champion.

    In addition---the Ladybirds broke yet another AFA record !! Team Vault total... 48.550. A total of nine records have been broken so far this season!!

    With some minor "mental errors" on bars and beam...scoring just 48.150 and 48.175 respectively, the AFA Falcons turned up the heat on floor and vault. The floor total of 48.950 just shows how consistent and sharp this team really is.

    Saturday's meet…

    WOW---what a way to end the regular season---a BIG Win at the last home meet versus the defending USAG Collegiate National Champions (Coach Woody's team she competed for in college and then coached for four years)...Texas Woman's University.

    AFA = 194.675
    TWU = 191.500

    Out of the six AFA competitors on the four events---and the six exhibition routines that also performed---the AFA Falcons HIT 29 out of the 30 routines...AMAZING !!

    The four seniors in the last home meet of their careers led the Ladybirds to not just one...but two new AFA gymnastics RECORDS !!!

    The AFA vault team record that was set just this past Thursday at the D.U. meet with a score of 48.550...was shattered!!! The NEW AFA RECORD is now a 48.750...the vaulters Saturday night were outstanding!!!

    The AFA TEAM TOTAL Record that was set this season was also broken Saturday night...the NEW AFA RECORD is now a 194.675!!!

    10 AFA RECORDS have been broken this season alone!!

    The LOWEST score we had to count all night was a 9.625...the team DEFINITELY was on FIRE---determined to perform their BEST and to score way more than the 193.475 needed to move ahead of Southern Utah in the NCAA Regional rankings. In fact---because of the strength of the teams in the NCAA Region that AFA is in ... five teams from our Region will be seeded in the top 18 in the final national rankings and will automatically be qualified to NCAA Regional Championships, which is GOOD for AFA.

    Because now that we've moved ahead of Southern Utah in our Region---the Air Force Women's Gymnastics Team has QUALIFIED as a TEAM to the NCAA Regional Championships---- this is the FIRST time in the HISTORY of AFA Gymnastics this feat has been accomplished!!!!

    This championship meet will be HUGE---the University of UTAH is hosting and expects 10,000 to 15,000 spectators and live television coverage...

    The team is SO EXCITED!!! They've worked so hard and have given up so many things in order to focus and train for this season---and it shows!!!

    I couldn't be more proud of them---especially the four seniors---Amy Hultin, Liz Weber, Kristi Delcour and team captain Jenn Glomb !! Their leadership and work ethic both in the gym and academically have been an inspiration to the whole team.

    And a special note of gratitude to Coach Holly and Coach Parker---they do so much for this team---we certainly would not have had the success this year without these two hard working, dedicated people.

    So now---the "craziness" begins---with traveling and competing at the NCAA Regional Championships in Salt Lake City for four days...then we're back for a day and a half...then we're off to the USAG Collegiate National Championships in Davis, California for six days!!! It will be tough---but we're all ready for the CHALLENGE !!!

    Throughout the whole season---the fans, friends and family members of the AFA women's gymnastics team have been so supportive of this program---I want to once again say Thank You ---

    WISH US LUCK---and I will keep you posted!!!
